Brushing your teeth is one thing. But with braces, that’s a whole other level that you need to consider, as not all toothbrushes work well with braces – they tend to snag and making the whole routine difficult. Why go through all the hassle when you can get a good toothbrush for anyone wearing braces?
The thing with a toothbrush for braces is it works just like a regular one should, but with added function to ensure that any bacteria or leftover food trapped within the braces that can ruin the teeth, leading to other issues.
So right here, we compiled a number of good toothbrushes suitable for anyone that wears braces, for the cleanest teeth as much as possible.
1. Oral-B 7000 SmartSeries Rechargeable Power Electric Toothbrush
Oral-B 7000 SmartSeries Power Electric Toothbrush features the signature Oral B’s oscillating power that provides full coverage on each tooth as well as removing plaque inside and out.
This particular model comes in three different brush heads, with the CrossAction one provides excellent performance for anyone with braces, with bristles angled at 16 degrees spin around and surround between the teeth and around the braces for a total clean. As for the other two — ProWhite and Sensitive head — you can also exchange and use the brush head should you need it.
A SmartGuide provides all the data necessary, including showing you the areas inside your mouth in real time, with the application, is connected via Bluetooth to track your brushing habits and to see where you can improve during and for your next brushing routine.
We love that this model comes in a number of modes and different speeds that you can choose for optimal brushing, a pressure sensor to guide you, as well as multiple brush head included in one package for convenient use.
The major downside is the time taken to recharge the brush is super long – up to 20 hours but at least one single charge can last up to 10 days. So we guess for you it’s okay?
2. Waterpik WP-950 Complete Care 7.0 Water Flosser and Sonic Tooth Brush
Think of this toothbrush as a combination of both brushing and flossing routine in one device. Waterpik WP-950 Complete Care provides total, optimal oral care with sonic technology that provides superb vibrations for a thorough cleaning.
We love that this model has its own timer that will alert you when the time is up, a good brushing habit requires you to brush each area of your teeth for two minutes – a timer here will help you immensely instead of having to guess (for putting a stopwatch in front of you).
The water flosser included in this model comes with a huge reservoir, holding 90 seconds of water that will blast the area to ensure not leftover food gets left behind – that’s what we call a total clean!
Plus, the toothbrush is designed to be slim enough fit for travel, while being sturdy enough for daily use. And we sincerely think Waterpik WP-950 Complete Care is a perfect, all-around toothbrush that you need to have.
Comes with four different brush heads, and a hard travel case is included in the package.
3. Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush, Gum Health, Black
Another Philips Sonicare model that we reviewed here is perfect for anyone with braces, as the sonic tech used in this toothbrush provides vibrations up to 31,000 strokes per minute for a total clean. Plus, the high number of strokes also create powerful bubbles that will move around between the brackets and wires of your braces, to remove any food residue and plaque trapped between the teeth that you can’t achieve with a regular toothbrush alone.
This model comes with three brushing modes: a Clean Mode for daily, regular brushing; White Mode to remove stains on the teeth effectively; a Gum Care Mode provides extra minutes for gum massage on top of Clean Mode that is beneficial if you have sensitive gums and teeth. Each of this routine is assisted with a QuadPacer and Smartimer, as well as a pressure sensor to alert you (in 30 seconds and 2-minute alert) to clean all areas in your mouth thoroughly.
And to top it off, a BrushSync tech will track the time you’ve been using the toothbrush to alert you when is the time to replace the brush head, without having to guess each time.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean also comes with a charger with the toothbrush charge that will last for 14 days. The only downside is the handle can easily slip if you hold the handle with wet hands. Other than that, Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean is superb!
4. Oral-B Kids Electric Rechargeable Power Toothbrush Featuring Disney’s Frozen
Since it’s common to have kids start wearing braces we think it’s best to include one in our review for you to look through.
Notably, Pro-Health Kids toothbrush is a lot smaller than the one for adults to suit well for the kids, and it works well to not only clean the teeth thoroughly but also every nook and cranny of braces as well.
As the toothbrush is designed by Braun, the head brush is also compatible with other Braun toothbrush as well. The brush head is softer and in a way, it’s similar to the sensitive range for adults for a softer pressure to both teeth and gums.
Plus, you can sync the toothbrush with the Disney Magic Timer app that will show the children a secret image to encourage them to keep on brushing their teeth (as we all know, the kids tend to have a shorter attention span, so this can be a bonus point for parents)
There’s no alert included in the toothbrush to let you know when is the time to replace the heads – just the usual looking at the colored bristles that will fade away, to let you know the time to replace a new one. As well as there’s no alert when is the time to charge the toothbrush or to let you know it comes to full charge. Honestly, why must we strip off essential features like this just because the toothbrush is made for kids?
And we look through other reviews from other users, mold is one of the major gripes among parents and we suspect is due to poor product design – the holes at the brush head will allow air and water to flow through, and as the head gets locked on the toothbrush, the moisture will create mold inside the brush head that can be unhygienic for the kids to use.
5. Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 Electric Rechargeable Power Toothbrush
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean is the higher version of ProtectiveCare that provides higher sonic vibration, at 60,000 per minute. The set comes with three different brush heads and we personally all three of them are suitable if you’re wearing braces; a Plaque Control works to remove trapped plaque effectively; White removes stains, while Gum Care brush massages and cleans the gum to soothe sensitive gums.
This particular model comes with four cleaning modes in three variable speeds for optimal control while brushing your teeth, depending on your sensitivity.
With so many combinations that you can use, a Smart Mode Pairing is included in the application by recognizing brush head that you’re using to pair with the right mode to deliver the best result possible – a unique feature that will take all the guesswork completely, saving you a lot of time.
And yes, as with all Philips Sonicare toothbrush, a built-in smart sensor will detect the location and sync the data with the app for you to keep track, as well as detecting an area where you put too much pressure on in real time.
Apart from the toothbrush itself, the other thing that catches our eye is the sleek-looking charging glass to charge the toothbrush that’s aesthetically pleasing to look at, with its water detail and all. A single charge lasts up to 14 days, a decent time for a toothbrush to work.
Plus, this particular model is waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about splashing a little bit of water while brushing (after all, you’re going to brush in the bathroom, where the major water area is)
Once fully charged, the toothbrush will work for two weeks. That’s even when it’s used regularly. Braces require constant care, so you’ll need to brush after every meal. You’ll still get weeks of brushing from your toothbrush when you’re on the go.
6. Xtech XHST-100 Oral Hygiene Ultra High Powered 40,000VPM, Rechargeable Electric Ultrasonic Toothbrush
Xtech XHST-100 offers a thorough cleaning action with its five brushing mode – Clean, Sensitive, White, Gumcare, Massage (we highly recommend Clean and sensitive if you’re wearing braces) – that you can choose to suit your needs, even with the braces on. Each mode delivers up to 40,000 vibrations or minute that we have to say, the highest one yet among other toothbrushes in this review.
Xtech XHST-100also comes with a timer (set in two minutes) that will alert you when the brushing in one area is done.
The set also comes with a charging dock (with a compartment to store four different brush head, also included in the set). And what we love the most is this model also comes with a UV sanitizing station to sanitize the brush head after each use, to kill off bacteria that might be lurking within the bristles – and that we have to say a major point compared with other toothbrushes reviewed here.
The only downside with this brand is the bristles are notably softer compared with other brands; you might need to put the pressure more while brushing and this will eventually wear out the bristles that you need to replace the head sooner than usual.
