If you are a sushi lover or perhaps prone to spend a lot of dough on sushi, perhaps a better alternative would be making your own sushi right at home, with a sushi making kit. It’s much more affordable in the long run, and you can enjoy sushi anytime you want, without waiting in the line. It’s nutritious, tasty, and you can personalize it according to your palate. What more can you ask?

Things To Think About Before Buying A Sushi Making Kit

Because of the popularity and the convenience, there are a lot of options and sets of sushi making kit to choose from, which can be confusing with their own pros and cons. Don’t worry, we got you covered.

When looking for the right sushi making kit for your use, the first thing you need to consider is how much are you willing to spend on it. Most kits come with a price range between $10 to $40 and while the lowest price is appealing, there’s always a chance that the items are made with cheap plastic that won’t last long (unless you want to test it out first).

If you are making a lot of sushi on a daily basis (you eat sushi for breakfast) or intent to make lots of it by yourself for an occasion, we highly recommend kits that are durable, made with high-quality materials. In the long run, the kits can be like a staple or investment for your kitchen.

Certain kits come with just a device to make sushi, while others come with all of the items needed to make one or two varieties of sushi, complete with guidebooks. And let’s not forget as sushi is traditionally rolled with a bamboo mat and there are kits come with it; if you lack experience and/or simply want convenience and perfect result every single time, a rolling device and molds are the better idea. Of course, if want the aesthetic with bamboo mats while preferring for convenience at the same time, I’d say why not get both?

1. SushiQuik Super Easy Complete Sushi Making Kit

SushiQuik Super Easy Complete Sushi Making Kit

Just like its name, the vibrantly colored green sushi making kit from Sushiquik is one of the highly rated kits for years, it’s popular among sushi lovers, and definitely one of the kits that you need to consider.

Containing 7 pieces in one set made with BPA-free plastic – including a stand, non-stick rice paddle, a training sushi frame, a roll cutter, two caps (for soy sauce and wasabi), and of course a rolling mat – with the stand is where you place the mat, a piece of nori, and training frame to prevent rice falling off, then add the rice and ingredients you want, before rolling them for a perfect set of sushi.

Overall, we love this kit as it serves a great intro for training, especially beginners (for all ages), or perhaps you a seasoned expert just need some quick time to prepare sushi in advance. Indeed, most users love that SushiQuik does make the whole process easier.

Most of the parts in the kit is detachable, making it easy to clean up (and dishwasher safe too!), and the non-stick paddle makes scooping the rice easy breezy. The only downside is the size of the rolling mat can be small for some if you prefer big-sized sushis. And yes, no knife is included in the kit, although it’s not really a big deal.

Not to mention, the affordable price makes it a complete, attractive package for a sushi making kit that you might be looking for.

2. BambooWorx Complete Sushi Making Kit

BambooWorx Complete Sushi Making Kit

BambooWorx goes for the traditional way in their sushi making kit, with two rolling mats (square shaped, 9.5 inches in length), a rice paddle and a rice spreader each in 8 inches of length (all made from high quality bamboo) for you to made any type of sushi – and any size – that you want. The additional rice spreader can be handy in spreading the rice evenly for a uniformly shaped sushi

Traditional is one thing, durability is other. And we love that the bamboos used are quite sturdy to hold, with a smooth surface and no splinter in sight, a sign that we think this kit will last long, at least up to two years with regular usage and proper care.

For a traditional bamboo mat, a different type of TLC is needed to ensure a long lifespan. Place a saran wrap on the mat before adding nori and other ingredients for easy cleanup, and use mild soap with warm water, dried soon after so they don’t get wet for too long.

We love the approach in making sushi in this kit is rather straightforward by simply roll up the sushi tightly in the mat, but the downside as since there’s no sushi frame or mold for you to cut sushis in similar width unless you’re an expert.

Considering the quality of the bamboo used in the kit, with proper care we can be sure it’ll be made to last and worth the money in the long run. Not to mention the bamboo aesthetic reminds you of the beautiful Japanese culture while making sushi.

3. The Sushi Bazooka | All in 1 Sushi Making Machine

The Sushi Bazooka | All in 1 Sushi Making Machine

I suppose the name comes from the gadget looking like a Bazooka and Sushi Bazooka is a sushi making kit that not only makes the whole sushi making the process easier, it also makes it rather entertaining way.

Named as the all-in-one sushi making machine, there are only three main parts in this kit that include a tube, a plunger, and the endcap, with the main tube, is where the sushi rolls (sized at 12 inches length and 2.5 inches in width). using it also easier: just stuff the nori, rice, and other ingredients you want, take the gadget apart and put it in the dishwasher for easy cleanup.

Although this kit looks like good stuff, it falls short in our favor for a number of reasons. First is the material itself is not hard plastic, but instead a thin, flimsy one that it looks like going to snap apart in a couple of months. Secondly, you still need a bamboo mat to roll the sushi and this is not included in the kit (the kit only helps you to roll and pack the rice part in a perfect circular form).

And using this kit means you only get one size of sushi (you need to stuff the rice a lot to make it work effectively) that if you prefer a smaller size the ingredients will certainly fall apart.

The other thing that can counter the cons above is the kit can be a great idea to introduce to the children as each piece have no sharp edges – we think that it’s a great addition for the kids to make sushi for their lunch after they get the hang of it.

Original AYA Sushi Maker is one of the top brands sought after when it comes to sushi making kit. Each item included in the set is eye-catching and (shall we say) complete that we think it will make your sushi making the process a breeze.

There are 11 items in total, including a rice paddle, a rice spreader, a chef knife, three sizes od sushi frame for cutting, and different shape of sushi mold to create sushi in all shapes and sizes, all in one pouch for easy storage. The only downside? They don’t come with a rolling mat to roll the sushi in that you need to purchase one separately.

5. Sushi Magic Sushi Making Kit

Sushi Magic Sushi Making Kit

Sushi Magic Sushi Making Kit catches our eye not only the rolling stuff, but it also comes with a sushi mold-and-press toll to make nigiri sushi (you can make 8 in one go). The set is made for both beginners and professional use, with a foolproof mechanism to ensure perfect sushi every time.

We’re impressed the rolling device of this kit is quite sturdy and in fact, it made the whole rolling process easier and it helps to tighten and secure the roll at the end, much better than the traditional bamboo mat. If your sushi always comes apart, this set is highly recommended for you. One user even commented that once you get the hang of it, you can get it done in 30 minutes, with plenty of sushi to eat.

We don’t have any qualms with this kit, although it’s best to point out that you can only get round shaped sushi and standard square shaped for nigiri (which not really a big deal), where if you prefer a different shape for the sushi, you may need to purchase different mold separately.

All in all, Sushi Magic Sushi Making Kit makes a great addition for you to have in your home, for a simple, yet sturdy sushi making kit.

6. Sushi Making Kit by iSottcom – Sushi Kit for Chef and Beginners

Sushi Making Kit by iSottcom – Sushi Kit for Chef and Beginners

Sushi Making Kit by iSottcom provides a different approach than traditional rolling in sushi making, and still easy to use even for beginners with perfect, gourmet-level results.

Generally, this kit makes the square-shaped sushi in different sizes (such as uramaki, ehomaki, or even nigiri) but you can always mold it into a round shape using a bamboo mat to roll them into shape (which you need to buy separately.

Another unique feature that we love is the kit also comes with a 60-page digital guide full of detailed instructions and recipes, that we highly recommend that you read through to get the hang of it, as well as mastering the recipes.

The set comes with a handmade, high-quality solid beech wood that we can tell it’s made to last for years (backed with a lifetime warranty, that’s how good this kit is). And yes, the wood means it needs to be hand washed.

The downside is the set does not come with sushi mold or a sushi frame cutter that can help you to cut through the roll into perfect, uniform size. Mind the knife that’s also not included which is not a big deal, but the molds and frames are usually what the beginners look for in sushi making kit unless you don’t mind if the sushis are not in the same width, then supposedly it’s okay.

Overall, Sushi Making Kit by iSottcom is a sturdy piece of items that can be a great addition to your kitchen, we can see that the tools serve as a staple in cooking.
